In Production
The Sacred Land Film Project is currently producing Losing Sacred Ground, an international television series profiling imperiled sacred sites around the world where indigenous communities are fighting to protect their cultural and natural heritage. This documentary series is the centerpiece of an innovative campaign focusing on the connection between indigenous peoples’ reverence for land and water and the worldwide need to protect the environment.
In Losing Sacred Ground, we focus on twelve distinct stories from the viewpoints of diverse indigenous communities. These stories evoke ancient and contemporary spiritual connections to earth while exploring how the health of our global environment can be sustained through respectful understanding of the sacred lands and traditions of these native peoples.
In the summer of 2007, we filmed in the Altai Republic, a mountainous corner of the Russian Federation, and in the rugged Northern Territory of Australia. Next up, Sacred Land Film Project visits the magnificent and constantly imperiled Mt. Shasta region of northern California, a spiritual park in Peru, sacred groves in India, and a little-known island reserve in Hawaii.
